Hello TumbleTown families!

How is everyone holding up?! If you’re anything like this TumbleTown family, your kids have started climbing the walls – quite literally! Here’s J showing off all the skills she’s learned at TumbleTown – strength, confidence, courage …

It’s not easy being cooped up because of self-isolation and social distancing. To help keep the kids busy and burning off energy in a safe way, we will be updating here on the blog and posting ideas on social media – be sure to come back here, as well as follow @tumbletownvan on Instagram and Facebook to keep in the loop!

We’ve found a few fun indoor activities for kids to get moving! There are great individual activities as well as interactive games for siblings, or parent and child to do together.

Here are some fantastic ideas from What Moms Love! We’ve compiled a few of our favourites below, but have a read through all the creative and fun ideas:

Tape Shape Game: Using painter’s tape, design a variety of shapes, letters and numbers spread out around your floor. Direct your children to move from shape to shape using different locomotives:

    – Hop like a frog to the triangle
    – Gallop like a horse to the ‘H’
    – Slither like a snake to ‘5’
    – Other fun locomotives: Run like a cheetah, hop like a bunny, walk like a penguin on your heels, bear crawl, crab walk, hop on one foot, tip toe, skip …
    – Include direction to add new challenge: hop backwards, gallop sideways.

Hopscotch: Make a simple indoor hopscotch using painters tape! Use two feet, one foot, skip numbers etc.

Don’t Let The Balloon Touch The Ground: Kids must hit the balloon up in the air without letting it touch the ground! Can be simplified for toddlers by simply passing back and forth with a parent, or made more challenging for older kids by having them juggle more than 1 balloon. Great for hand – eye coordination!

Balloon Blow: Kids can blow a balloon from the start line all the way to the finish line, crawling as they go! Make it more challenging by having kids slither like a snake, bear walk, or army crawl. Great for working upper body and core strength!
Variation: Kids can crab walk and kick the balloon along the course!

Balloon Taps: Hang a balloon from your doorway and kids jump up and tap it with their hand. Count how many they can do in a row without missing.

Sticky Spider Web: Use painter’s tape to make a web on a doorway opening. Kids can use scrunched up newspaper balls, balloons or other light weight object and throw them at the web.

Mission Impossible Obstacle Maze: Using crepe paper, painters tape, flag tape etc, create a maze in a hallway for your kids to navigate their bodies through. Put the tape high and low, forcing them to step over and crawl under at various points – excellent for strength, body control, precision and more!

We’re loving these ball games from Frugal Fun! All games use things found around the house – cardboard boxes, baskets, milk jugs etc. Our personal favourites are ‘The Colour Toss’ and ‘Get Rid of the Balls’ – much like the ‘Clean Your Room’ game we play at TumbleTown

We’re big fans of scavenger hunts at TumbleTown! We love a good treasure hunt, egg hunt, shape hunt and more! You can do this at home using your child’s favourite toys. Hide stuffed animals, puzzle pieces, cars etc, or have kids look for their favourite things around the house.

If you’re healthy and able to get outside, whether it be your backyard or around the block, Buggy and Buddy have a lot of free templates to check out!

Let us know if you end up trying any of these activities out – we’d love to hear from you!

Stay safe and keep active!
